Chapter 5

We woke on Wednesday, April 22 at a rest stop in Salina, Kansas.
After Lise cut up some watermelon for breakfast, we headed west on I70. Having covered a lot of miles since last Thursday, we were hoping to pitch a tent and relax a bit. The short term goal was to get to my son and his family in Cheyenne, WY in the next day or so. Lise started calling state parks in both Kansas and Colorado. These two states had different rules due to Crona. Colorado was allowing day use only of its state parks while Kansas was allowing over night camping. We picked a state park in western Kansas called Lake Scott State Park to spend the night.

This place was just what the doctor ordered! Beautiful, quiet and cheap - $18 for the night. We were able to do some hiking and relaxing and we even got caught in a thunderstorm! If you ever find yourself in west Kansas looking for a place to stay, you could do a lot worse than Lake Scott State Park!
